Tsavorite Garnet

Introduction

Not as common as it’s more popular green cousin, the emerald, Tsavorite is a more vivid green garnet. What makes it so special, is how particularly rare it is, some say it’s 200 types more rare than an emerald. The bottle green gemstone was named after the Tsavo National Park in Kenya, where it was first found in the 70s.

Tsavorite proves that gemstones and their discovery need not be ancient and modern day emergences of stones still exists. It is a stone of benevolence, vitality, vigour and compassion. They say it helps in discovering the beauty within and make your own destiny. The best Tsavorite colour is a deep emerald green; lighter tones and yellowish hues are less desirable. The green colouring is caused by trace amounts of the elements chromium or vanadium in its chemical structure. It is usually fluorescent a light cream-yellow colour in ultraviolet light. The stone falls between 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness.
