Red Garnet

Introduction

Not quite but almost as old as time itself, the red garnet is being valued since the Bronze Age. It found itself along the necks of Egyptian pharaohs and even King Solomon. Since time immemorial, it’s been favoured by clergymen and royals and is known to be the most traded gems of all times.

The origin of its name came from the Latin word ‘granatum,’ which means seed. Subsequently, the gemstone’s connection to seeds comes from the red seeds inside a pomegranate, which are vibrant and lush, very much like the gem itself. Features like courage, perseverance, energy, passion and drive are said to be derived from it. Red Garnet has the potential to last for thousands of years with proper care. The stone falls between 6.5 and 7.5 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness. In much simpler times, red garnets were exchanged as gifts between parting friends to demonstrate the deep affection shared for each other and to insure they meet again.
