When two hues sing a duet, that my friend is a Rhodolite garnet.
A popular jewellery stone, Rhodolite Garnets are purplish red garnets, fiery, stunning and a great alternative to the ruby. Rhodolite was named after the pink rhododendron flower that is native to North Carolina, where it was first discovered.
They say the colour of the gem can be compared to ‘light shining on a bottle of velveteen red wine’. They have been used in jewellery for centuries and have a royal fan base too. Perhaps due to the stone’s reputation for protection, royalty often wore garnets. For example, Mary Queen of Scots, Queen Victoria, and the Russian Czarinas were all well-known for wearing garnets as adornments on their garments. The gemstone is said to invoke inspiration and creativity.
